This chapter presents the summary

This chapter presents the summary, findings, conclusion and recommendations made by the researchers from the data gathered at the University of the Visayas-Mandaue, first year, second year, third year and fourth year students.
Summary of Findings
The study is entitled The Effects of Smartphones and Smart tablets to the Learning Performance of College Students and its main purpose is to determine the effects of smartphones and smart tablets to the college students in University of the Visayas-Mandaue, School Year 2017-2018.
The researchers use the quantitative descriptive type with a modified questionnaire as the main tool. For the purpose of this study, the quantitative approach will be used to determine the effect of smartphones and smart tablets to the learning performance of college students.
Before gathering the data, the researchers asked first the approval to the College Dean. Upon the approval, the researchers surveyed the whole college students in University of the Visayas-Mandaue as their respondents. The researchers oriented the respondents on what they are going to do with the questionnaires. After the orientation, the researchers distributed the questionnaires. In distributing, the researchers’ used the free time of the respondents to avoid class destruction. The survey is composed of questions which were related to the student’s perception regarding the effects of devices/gadgets to their learning performance. In the questionnaire, checklist scale is used to determine if the respondents answered Always, Sometimes and Never in each of the statement.
The respondents are given enough time to answer the questionnaires. The result of the checklist is tallied, tabulated and then interpreted by the researchers.
Findings of the study showed that Smartphone is the most used gadget by the college students with a WM of 175.
Findings of the study revealed that the present statuses of the respondents are Always on Cognitive Aspect in terms of frequently understanding the lesson in class more due to the availability of modern technology and Sometimes in terms of frequently taking a backseat in spending most of their time to their smartphones and smart tablets as well as hardly paying attention to what is going on in the class as they are too busy surfing or updating their Facebook statuses.
Generally, only the question number one has an Always descriptive equivalent. The researchers found out that the availability of modern technology can help the respondents understand the lesson more. Moreover, question number two and question number 3 appeared to be Sometimes. It showed that there are instances that the respondents spend most of their time facing their smartphones and smart tablets and it leads to destruct them to not paying attention to the class.
The study also revealed that the statuses of the respondents has a Sometimes descriptive equivalent on Social Aspect in terms of communicating, accessing information, researching and chatting with the use of their smartphone and smart tablets inside the classroom as well as spending most of their time studying using their smartphones and smart tablets than studying with their classmates and frequently helps them in boosting social interactions with their peers, classmates, schoolmates, teachers and etc.
It also showed that the present statuses of the respondents has a Sometimes descriptive equivalent on Emotional Aspect in terms of frequently using the smartphones and smart tablets to ease depression, often feel anxious when they left their smartphones or smart tablets at home and frequently feel panic when they have limited accessibility to their smart phones and smart tablets.
Generally, all the aspects that contribute to the learning performance of the respondents resulted to frequency of Sometimes. Meaning all the respondents are on the average exposure of those aspects. None of them falls on the extremes of the rating scales of the checklist.
Conclusion
From the study conducted by the researchers, they have concluded that the college students are very dependent on their smartphones and smart tablets. They cannot live a day without facing their gadgets and they came to the point where they keep on using their smartphones and smart tablets than listening to class discussions, having a group study with their classmates and can’t be participative in the class. It also serves as their stress reliever.
Base on the data gathered interpreted by the researchers they found out that there is a need to propose a particular program as a remediation to the problem which is to conduct a seminar.
The conclusion then synchronizes with the theory of Sandra Ball-Rokeach and Melvin Defleur named Media Dependency Theory foretells that we depend on media information to meet our particular needs and obtain certain goals.
